Fourteen bucks a month (and other things)…
Paloma and I have begun the move to our new place. More details on that soon – I’d like to save most of the fabulous details until we’ve officially moved in (and they’ll be saved for Sanguine Meander), but I’ll just announce this, because it’s so, so, so amazing: we’re moving into one of these. It’s insulated, and has a wood stove, and when the windows are open I am surrounded by forest views. Since I have spent the past few months in indoor suburban comfort, moving back outdoors is going to take some getting used to at first, but my god in heaven I cannot WAIT until summertime. Between this and the Yuba River, it’s going to take a bit of effort to drag me out of here (at least until this year’s Beloved Festival, anyway).
In knitting news, I paid the incredible Katherine Vaughan to re-tech-edit my Motorcycle Gloves knitting pattern (Ravelry link). I assumed I’d be forking over a hefty sum for her services, but… she’s good because she’s good, and she cranked through that thing in a matter of seconds, relatively speaking. She is a tech-editing goddess! It will be re-released in the next few weeks. If you’re looking for a tech editor for your self-published knitting patterns, I can’t recommend this woman highly enough. She is the one.
Finally – Sanguine Meander is moving along – as I predicted, I am now getting paid fourteen dollars a month to write. But it’s fourteen dollars I didn’t have before, and I’m being paid to write. This is wonderful. My next letter to my lovely subscribers will reveal all the fine details about what I get to do next in life, and refresh the benefits of positive thinking for anyone who is still blaming others for their misfortunes. Oh, and we’re going to start talking about herbs and farming again.
Nevada City has opened its doors to us in ways that I couldn’t have imagined when I first arrived here. I have learned an immense amount about living life by choice instead of chance (but living by chance is, of course, a lovely way to live life for a while – I know, because I did it for years and playing The Fool is FUN, at least if you have nothing else to accomplish). I decided to CHOOSE to live here, and opportunities have pretty much laid themselves at my feet since I made that choice. I am meeting amazing women and fellow mothers here. Paloma is loving it, too and will be spending a lot of her time outdoors eating dirt when she isn’t busy playing with a huge pile of babies. They are everywhere here. Babies are the new chickens are the new iPhone up in here. Gosh, there’s just so much to share right now, and that’s not even the half of it (the other half involves a 12 hour boat ride from Iquitos, Peru). Life is happening, and while it’s hard to wrap my mind around this entire collection of things I’ve got going on, it’s so incredibly exciting to finally feel truly alive and motivated again. Praise jah.
Oh, and I still have a couple of free subscription slots open for Sanguine Meander.
